
This new Order, published under Government Notice No. 605A on October 13, 2025, revokes the previous 2022 minimum wage order and introduces new minimum wage rates and employment standards for the private sector in Tanzania.
Key Details:
- Official Title: The Labour Institutions (Minimum Wage for Private Sector) Order, 2025.
- Effective Date: The new minimum wage rates will come into force on January 1, 2026.
- Application: The Order applies to all employees and employers in the private sector.
- Overall Increase: The government announced that the private sector minimum wage has been increased by an average of 33.4%, from TZS 275,060 to TZS 358,322 per month.
- Scope: The number of sectors with regulated minimum wages has been increased from 13 to 16 sectors, while the number of sub-sectors has risen from 25 to 46.

Other Employment Standards
In addition to wages, the Order establishes employment standards, including:
- An employee shall be entitled to a leave travel allowance once in every two years of continuous service with the same employer, in addition to annual paid leave.
- An employee is entitled to a subsistence allowance when required to work outside their work station, according to an agreement between the employer and employee.
- An employee who is a truck driver is entitled to an allowance for mileage, longer stay outside the work station, loading, and unloading of cargo, as agreed upon.
- If an employee is already receiving wages at a higher rate or more favorable terms than those prescribed, the employer must continue to pay the higher wages and favorable terms for as long as the employee is employed by that employer.
- More favorable minimum wage terms can be achieved through employment contracts or collective bargaining agreements.
